Apple is planning to introduce ads into its Maps app to generate revenue from the service. The announcement could come as early as this month.
According to Bloomberg, Apple Maps ads will work on the Google Maps platform. It is planned that brands and stores will be able to participate in auctions for advertising space and search terms, with the ads displayed in search results. For example, a search for “best matcha” could show ad listings for Starbucks or other nearby cafes that participated in the auction for that term.
It is noted that the ads will be displayed in the Maps app on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, as well as in Apple’s web app.
