The UK’s Justice Minister, Shabana Mahmood, has strongly condemned the “alarming rise” in anti-Semitism in the country after a firebomb was targeted at a Jewish volunteer ambulance in London.
The incident took place in the Stamford Hill area of north London, home to a large Jewish community. The fire, caused by an explosive device thrown at the Hatzola ambulance, caused significant damage to the vehicle, but fortunately, there were no casualties.
“This is not just an attack on property; this is an attack on the foundations of our society and on the people who save lives. Anti-Semitism and hatred have no place on our streets,” the country’s Justice Minister said in a statement.
Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. Community safety agencies report that the number of incidents targeting Jewish institutions and individuals in Britain has reached unprecedented levels recently.
