Nine sets of medals were played in several sports at the ongoing Winter Olympics in Italy, including snowboarding, alpine skiing, and biathlon. The men’s hockey quarter-finals were also held in parallel.
Hockey (men)
Only one quarter-final match went to regular time: Slovakia defeated Germany 6:2.
The other three matches were closely fought: the leading teams, Canada and the United States, reached the semi-finals with great difficulty.
Snowboarding
The women’s slopestyle final was postponed due to adverse weather conditions at the Livigno ski resort, including strong winds and a snowstorm. The International Ski Federation (FIS) announced that the athletes were unable to complete their training sessions, so the competition was postponed to another day.
The women’s ski jumping qualification round has also been postponed.
Biathlon
Men’s 4×7.5km relay
The French team won the men’s Olympic relay for the first time in history. Fabien Claude, Emilien Jacquelin, Quentin Fillon-Mayer, and Eric Perrot covered the distance in 1:19:55.2.
Norway took second place, 9.8 seconds behind, and Sweden third (57.5 seconds behind).
Women’s relay
The French team, after finishing 16th after the first round, managed to come back into the fight and win, recording a time of 1:10:22.7. In the final round, Julia Simone crossed the finish line with the French flag. This is France’s third relay gold of these games, after the men’s and mixed relays.
Freestyle (acrobatics, women)
China’s Xu Mengtao became a two-time Olympic champion with 112.90 points, repeating her previous success.
Australia’s Daniela Scott won the silver medal (102.17 points).
