Archaeologists have discovered an unusual grave in the Racaša necropolis in Croatia (13th–16th centuries). It was probably associated with beliefs about protection against vampires. The buried man was 40–50 years old. The body was deliberately turned upside down, with his torso facing down, and his head about 30 cm from the body. Scientists have determined that he was beheaded after death to prevent him from returning.
