Iran and the United States have reached an agreement in Geneva on key “guidelines” for resolving their nuclear dispute, but that does not mean a deal will be signed anytime soon, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.
Oil futures fell after Araghchi’s comments, with the benchmark Brent contract down more than 1%. The statements eased fears of conflict in the region, where the United States has deployed naval forces to pressure Iran to make concessions.
“Different ideas were put forward, they were seriously discussed, and ultimately we were able to reach a general agreement on some guidelines,” Araghchi told Iranian media after the Geneva talks.
