The last representatives of Armenia performed at the 25th Winter Olympic Games, which are coming to an end in Milan and Cortina.
In the figure skating pairs competition, Karina Akoova and Nikita Rakhmanin, representing Armenia, scored 114.39 points in the free program. After the short program, they had 66.27 points and, after increasing their points in the two exercises to 180.66, took 14th place.
Alpine skier Harutyun Harutyunyan also completed the competitions. In the first round of the downhill competition, he posted a time of 1:10.12 and finished in 37th place, but was disqualified for a violation during the second attempt and eliminated from further competition. Earlier, Harutyunyan competed in the giant slalom, where he posted a time of 1:21.67 and finished 59th among 81 competitors.
Armenia had 5 representatives at the Winter Olympics. Skiers Mikael Mikaelyan and Katya Galstyan also defended Armenia’s sporting honor.
Mikael Mikaelyan finished 53rd in the 10 km interval (freestyle) race with a time of 23:06.4, and 48th in the 20 km skiathlon (classic/freestyle) race with a time of 51 minutes 06 seconds.
In the women’s 10 km interval (freestyle) cross-country skiing competition, Katya Galstyan, a member of the Armenian Olympic team, took 82nd place among 111 participants with a result of 28 minutes and 33 seconds. Galstyan also competed in the 20 km skiathlon (classic/freestyle) cross-country skiing competition, but did not cross the finish line after passing the first 10 km in classic style.
It should be recalled that the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, met with the athletes at the Ashotsk Ski Center, and then at the Gazprom Armenia CJSC Educational and Sports Complex, ahead of the start of the Winter Olympic Games.
116 sets of medals are being played at the 25th Winter Olympic Games. Competitions are held in 16 sports.
