Ukraine has begun preparations for a presidential election scheduled for the same day as a referendum on a peace treaty with Russia, the Financial Times reported, citing sources.
The move comes as the White House presses Kiev to conclude peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in the spring.
The Trump administration has demanded that both votes be held by May 15, or the country risks losing security guarantees offered by the United States.
The sources also said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky intends to announce the presidential election and referendum on February 24, the day of Russia’s large-scale invasion.
According to the schedule, the Verkhovna Rada will work in March and April on the necessary legal changes to allow elections during wartime.
