A mass shooting has taken place in the western Canadian province of British Columbia. Ten people, including the alleged shooter, have been found dead, police said.
Six bodies were found at Tumbler Ridge High School, two more were found dead in an apartment believed to be connected to the incident, and one person died on the way to the hospital. There are multiple injured people who were airlifted to the hospital.
Police also said the alleged shooter was also found dead, apparently from a suicide.
Police have identified the shooter, but his identity is not being released.
The suspect is described as a woman with brown hair and wearing a dress.
“As officers searched the area, they found multiple injured and deceased people at the school,” police Superintendent Ken Floyd said at a press conference, adding, “The area is currently under control.” Investigators are working on the scene to determine the nature of the injuries, their extent and the weapons used or likely used.”
Prime Minister David Abe said the government would provide all possible support to community members in the coming days.
“Our hearts go out to Tumbler Ridge tonight with those who have lost loved ones,” Abe wrote.
