French President Emmanuel Macron gave a lengthy interview to the Tagesanzeiger newspaper and said Europe faces a very serious strategic threat stemming from Russia’s war policy.
Macron has repeatedly stressed that Russia’s war is a significant threat not only to the security of Ukraine but also to the security of all of Europe, and that Moscow is not preparing for real peace talks in the near future.
He insisted that Paris has restored technical communication channels with Moscow.
“We have restored communication channels at a technical level, and I would like my European partners to share this in the future, and that we have a well-organized European approach,” Macron said.
According to the French president, if the US-led peace process fails, Europe must be able to engage in a transparent dialogue with Russia, despite the difficulties, provided it takes place with Ukraine’s consent.
“The EU cannot allow any peace that would increase Russia’s influence or mean Ukraine’s defeat,” he stressed.
