The first Armenian representatives have started competing at the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Italy.
Armenian Olympic team member Katya Galstyan, competing in the 20 km skiathlon (classic/freestyle) event, did not cross the finish line after completing the first 10 km classic. Sweden’s Frida Karlsson won the Olympic champion title in the women’s skiathlon with a time of 53 minutes and 45 seconds.
Katya Galstyan is participating in the Winter Olympics for the 4th time. On February 12, she will compete in the 10 km interval (freestyle) event.
Skier Mikael Mikaelyan took 48th place among 73 participants in the 20 km skiathlon (classic/freestyle) event with a time of 51 minutes and 06 seconds. Norwegian Johannes Klebo won the Olympic champion title with a time of 46 minutes and 11 seconds.
On February 13, Mikael Mikaelyan will compete in the 10 km interval (freestyle) event.
Alpine skier Harutyun Harutyunyan will compete in the giant slalom on February 14 and the downhill on February 16.
The figure skating pair Karina Akopova-Nikita Rakhmani will compete in the short program qualification round on February 15. The free program qualification round will take place on February 16.
It should be noted that the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, met with the athletes at the Ashotsk Ski Center, and then at the Gazprom Armenia CJSC Educational and Sports Complex, ahead of the start of the Winter Olympic Games, wishing them successful competitions.
116 sets of medals are being played at the 25th Winter Olympic Games. Competitions are held in 16 sports.
