French President Emmanuel Macron’s top diplomatic adviser made an unannounced visit to Moscow on Tuesday and met with senior Russian officials. According to reliable sources, this is the first such visit by a senior French diplomat to the Russian capital after a long hiatus.
With this step, Paris is trying to revive diplomatic channels and understand whether it is possible to find ways to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Although no official reports about the meeting were released, it became known that the discussions focused on the war in Ukraine and key issues related to European security.
The French presidency neither confirmed nor denied the rumors about the talks.
“As the president said, the discussions are taking place at a technical level, in full transparency and in consultation with President Zelensky and key European partners,” the French presidency said.
