Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the document on the United States’ security guarantees to Ukraine is fully ready.
“For us, security guarantees are, first of all, security guarantees from the United States. The document is 100% ready, and we are waiting for our partners to confirm the date and place when we will sign it,” Zelensky said at a briefing with reporters during his visit to Vilnius.
He added that after signing the document, it will be sent to the US Congress and the Ukrainian parliament for ratification.
On January 24-25, a trilateral meeting was held in Abu Dhabi for the first time, with Ukrainian and Russian negotiators participating and US mediators involved. The Washington framework for ending the almost 4-year-old war was discussed, but no agreement was reached.
However, both Moscow and Kyiv have declared their readiness for further dialogue.
“Abu Dhabi is discussing the 20-point (American) plan and problematic issues. There were many problematic issues, but now there are fewer of them,” Zelensky said.
He noted that Moscow is doing everything to ensure that Ukraine gives up the eastern regions that Russia has failed to seize. However, Kiev, he said, does not deviate from its position on upholding Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
“These are two fundamentally different positions: Ukraine and Russia. The Americans are trying to find a compromise,” Zelensky said, adding that all sides, including the Americans, must be ready for compromises.
