At the World Economic Forum in Davos, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States should negotiate the acquisition of Greenland. He argued that no other state can ensure the island’s security, citing historical examples such as World War II, when Denmark was quickly defeated and could not defend itself. According to him, the acquisition of Greenland would not threaten NATO and could strengthen the alliance.
He also touched on Germany’s energy situation, noting that the country now produces 22% less electricity than in 2017. He clarified that this decline is not the fault of the current German Chancellor and expressed confidence that the Chancellor is effectively addressing the problem.
Trump also touched on global conflicts, claiming that he has ended eight wars, including those between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and is now focused on resolving the Russian-Ukrainian war. He noted that he was negotiating with both Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky to reach an agreement. Trump added that if necessary, he could use force, but preferred to avoid it, indicating a cautious approach to conflict resolution.
“Zelensky and Putin are now at a stage where they can reach an agreement. If they don’t, they are fools,” he said.
In his speech, he also highlighted the United States’ commitment to Europe, its European origins, and the importance of strong transatlantic ties. He stated that the United States is concerned about the well-being of Europe’s peoples and wants to see the continent prosper.
Trump stressed that energy, trade, migration, and economic growth should be key priorities for all those who support a strong and united West.
