Venezuela has begun releasing political prisoners following the arrest of former President Nicolas Maduro by the United States. The interim government led by Delcy Rodriguez has described the move as a gesture of “search for peace” or “peace consolidation.”
So far, according to human rights organizations, only a few dozen people have been released (approximately 18-41 people, including foreigners, in particular two Italian citizens and Spanish activists).
According to an official government statement, another 116 political prisoners have been released.
