Arabist Armen Petrosyan wrote on his Facebook page:
“On December 22, in parallel with the visit of the delegation led by the Turkish Foreign Minister to Syria, clashes took place between the interim government and the Kurdish armed forces in several Kurdish-populated areas of Aleppo. They stopped at the end of the day as a result of an agreement reached between the parties.
These developments are certainly aimed at implementing the agreement reached on March 10 of this year to push the “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF) by exerting comprehensive pressure on the Kurdish direction in northern Syria. According to it, the SDF was to be integrated into the Syrian Armed Forces, and the territories it controlled were to be gradually transferred to the central government’s control. The agreement was not implemented mainly due to the inherent problems of the Syrian government and the intervention of Israel.
Turkey is again trying to intervene in the process to promote a solution to a vital issue for it. In this context, Ankara’s military support for Damascus is not ruled out if the SDF fails to reach a peaceful solution.
PS: There are no casualties among the Armenian community. Today is a day of general rest declared in Aleppo.”
