On November 15, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia held a presentation of the research on “Key Issues of RA Foreign Trade Competitiveness” with the participation of Minister Gevorg Papoyan. The study was jointly conducted by the Department of Economic Research of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Armenia and the “Amberd” Research Center of the Armenian State University of Economics.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Edgar Zakaryan, Rector of the Armenian State University of Economics Armen Grigoryan, Vice-Rector Davit Hakhverdyan, and other representatives of the ASUE teaching staff and the “Amberd” Research Center.
“Research allows us to more clearly imagine the directions of development, assess risks, and identify obstacles. Cooperation with universities and research centers in this process is critical to us. To create a competitive product, it is also important to be guided not by experiments and uncertainty, but to rely on analysis and research,” Papoyan noted.
During the presentation, the main trends in the Republic of Armenia’s foreign trade sector were discussed in detail, including its trade agreements with partner countries and the customs, technical, and logistical barriers to exports.
The product and geographical structure of Armenia’s exports, the comparative advantages of its exports, and Armenia’s involvement in global production chains were also discussed. The foreign trade competitiveness index of Armenia was presented in the context of the EAEU, the EU, and other countries, with a focus on the commodity-country gap.
The presentation was followed by a discussion of the research, during which participants exchanged views on the issues presented, submitted proposals, and made observations. The parties agreed to continue implementing joint research projects to improve the effectiveness of economic policy.
