In his speech to the Turkish parliament, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan touched on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as between Armenia and Turkey.
“The will shown during the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process in Washington on August 8 and the progress we have made in the process of normalizing relations with Armenia have strengthened the hopes for long-awaited, lasting peace in the region,” he said.
Fidan emphasized that the exceptional relations with Azerbaijan are maintained on bilateral and multilateral platforms. “We continue to work in coordination and solidarity with our ally Azerbaijan in our efforts to establish peace and stability in the South Caucasus,” he said.
Positively assessing the peaceful and constructive approach shown by Armenia towards Turkey and Azerbaijan, Fidan noted: “We continue the dialogue with Armenia at various levels, which has shown a clear and purposeful position on the normalization of relations with our country, and we sincerely advance our joint work towards concrete steps being taken. “Turkey has been committed to establishing peace in the South Caucasus and creating a zone of shared prosperity in the region since the beginning,” he said.
Stressing that Azerbaijan and Armenia call for the proper use of this historic opportunity and the conclusion of a peace agreement as soon as possible, Fidan noted that bilateral relations with Georgia, which have reached the level of a strategic partnership, continue to strengthen on a mutually beneficial basis.
