His Holiness Catholicos Aram I met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Ottawa. During the meeting, which lasted about an hour, several critical regional issues were discussed, including the situation in Lebanon, Syria, the Middle East, Armenia, Palestine, and Gaza. His Holiness presented his views and concerns, responding to the Canadian Prime Minister’s interest in the topics above.
His Holiness Aram, I specifically emphasized the issue of Artsakh and, in particular, the fate of the Artsakh leadership illegally held in Azerbaijani prisons. He suggested that the Canadian Prime Minister take special steps to promote the early release of political prisoners, the return of the Artsakh people, the restoration of Artsakh’s right to sovereignty, and the preservation of Artsakh’s religious and cultural heritage.
