Georgian Interior Minister Gela Geladze arrived in Israel with a delegation on an official visit, where he met with the country’s Minister of National Security, far-right politician Itamar Ben-Gvir.
The parties will sign a memorandum of cooperation between the departments.
It should be noted that two months ago, on August 25, Itamar Ben-Gvir himself arrived in Georgia, where he also met with Gela Geladze.
Ben-Gvir is the leader of the Otzma Yehudit (“Jewish Power”) party, one of the most controversial politicians in the Israeli government.
During his August visit, he met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and other high-ranking government officials. This was the first visit of such a high-level Israeli official to Georgia since the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023 and the start of a new war in Gaza.
It should also be recalled that Ben Gvir’s August visit was preceded by a diplomatic incident: the Israeli embassy in Tbilisi strongly criticized the Georgian Foreign Ministry after the deputy minister attended a reception at the Iranian embassy dedicated to “the memory of the martyrs killed in the Israeli regime’s attack” and expressed solidarity with Tehran.
