Vahram Atanesyan, a former member of the Supreme Council of Armenia and the National Assembly of Nagorno-Karabakh, wrote on his Facebook page:
“What is pan-Turkism? Who is familiar with this ideology? Does anyone seriously believe that all Turkic-speaking peoples can unite in a single state system?
In the post-Soviet space, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan are Turkic-speaking, leaving aside the Russian autonomies. Will Uzbekistan, with a population of 33 million, now become a province of Turkey? Even in Azerbaijan, they are against the loss of sovereignty and unification with Turkey.
Pan-Turkism and Zionism are opposites. Pan-Turkism does not have the support of the United States, Europe, or China; the entire Arab world, India, Iran, and Afghanistan are against this ideology.
For Armenia, pan-Turkism is an existential threat if a comprehensive Russian-Turkish alliance is formed. And that will not happen as long as Turkey is a member of NATO.
Armenia and its friends, if there are any, must do everything to ensure that Turkey remains a member of NATO and joins the European Union.”
