Turkey has played a key role in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and recently, the Russian Foreign Minister announced that they have met and will meet with the Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul.
“I wouldn’t say that Turkey has a special role during these meetings. Turkey mainly serves as a platform, providing a space where the two sides meet and discuss. At least, all the meetings so far have been within that logic,” said Turkologist Nelly Minasyan in an interview with Radar Armenia, adding that in the following stages, if Turkey organizes it, there is no need to look for deep things.
According to her, Turkey is interested in the end of the war, since it suffers economic losses from both Russia and Ukraine. “Therefore, the fact that Turkey will play some role in this, etc., which will also be reflected in the South Caucasus, is unlikely.”
Addressing the question of whether there has been any substantive progress in Armenian-Turkish relations since the initialing of the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement, he emphasized that he does not see any progress at the moment, and it is unlikely that there will be any change in the near future.
“The problems that Turkey had set for itself do not exist at the moment, and it continues to keep the border closed.”
