On August 19, the Earth is expected to experience its second magnetic storm this month, which could last 1-2 days, the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Russian Space Research Institute reported.
According to experts, the magnetic disturbances are caused by a newly discovered coronal hole on the Sun, which will have a significant impact on the Earth’s magnetic field. The peak of the storm is predicted for August 19, and the geomagnetic environment will be volatile during those days.
According to information, this dark structure of the Sun, with a diameter of about half a million kilometers, occupies most of the solar disk and is a source of high-speed solar wind. The wind speed near the Earth, starting from Monday, can reach up to 800-900 km/h, instead of the current 300 km/h.
It should be recalled that magnetic storms of similar intensity were also recorded on August 8-9, when auroras were observed in the northeastern regions of Russia. The probability of such phenomena is also high on the night of August 19, including in the European part of Russia.
