The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new eye drop called VIZZ for the treatment of presbyopia, a condition caused by age-related farsightedness. It allows for up to 10 hours of clear vision without glasses. The drops can significantly reduce or even eliminate the need for binocular vision, especially for those with nearsightedness.
VIZZ is applied once a day and does not cause the side effects that were sometimes seen with the previously approved Vuity drops. VIZZ’s active ingredient, aceclidine, affects only the pupil, avoiding overwork and potential complications in the ciliary muscle (the focusing muscle) of the eye.
The FDA approved it after three successful clinical trials involving hundreds of volunteers. No serious side effects were reported during the trials.
VIZZ will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2025, by prescription.
