Ahead of a U.S.-brokered trilateral summit today, where a preliminary peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan could be signed, the State Department declined to comment on the details of the talks.
US State Department Deputy Press Secretary Tommy Pigott declined to provide specific information.
“I’m referring you to the White House for details on what’s going to happen. It may or may not happen,” he said.
Asked what the US position is on the so-called “Zangezur Corridor,” Pigott said he would try to provide more details later, without giving any clarification at this time.
Pigott said both President Trump and the Secretary of State have repeatedly expressed hope that an agreement could be reached soon. He added that when there is something concrete to announce, they will officially announce it, avoiding predictions or details.
“Both the [US] president and the secretary of state have stated that they generally hope to see some agreement soon. They have both said that many times. The Secretary of State often talks about this when he has the opportunity,” he stressed.
