Indian refiners are awaiting government orders to impose an additional 25 percent tariff on Indian goods, Reuters reported, citing sources.
The new measures are in response to continued imports of Russian oil. Washington has already imposed tariffs to reduce its trade deficit with New Delhi, but the current measures are directly linked to India’s energy cooperation with Moscow.
State-owned refineries have halted supplies, while private players Reliance Industries, Nayara Energy, and HPCL Mittal Energy continue to make purchases. A representative of a private oil company in India said:
“Until the government gives instructions, we will not stop importing Russian oil.”
