Clashes between Druze and Bedouin continue in Syria

A spokesman for the Syrian Interior Ministry said that Syrian security forces are preparing to re-enter the province of Suwayda to resolve clashes between Druze and Bedouin.

At the same time, the Israeli army attacked a convoy of Bedouin fighters on the Palmyra-Homs highway in Syria. According to the Israeli Kan News, they were heading to Suwayda to take part in the clashes.

This happened just two days after Israel launched strikes on Damascus.

According to Reuters, the Bedouin fighters said that they would not abide by the ceasefire, since it only applies to government forces. They aim to free their compatriots whom Druze armed groups have captured.

The Bedouins have already reached Sweida, Arab sources and Israeli media confirm.

The new Syrian authorities have condemned the Israeli strikes, considering them a violation of sovereignty. However, Israel has justified its actions by defending the Druze minority, although analysts note that Israel also has its own strategic goals.

Israeli strikes on Syrian territory are nothing new. After a 14-year civil war that ousted Bashar al-Assad from power, Israel has bombed Syria numerous times and occupied about 400 sq. km. of territory.
