Yerevan mayor received Françoise Jacob, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia. Touching upon joint programs, Tigran Avinyan highlighted the programmatic cooperation between Yerevan Municipality and the UN team, as well as various UN agencies, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In 2026, Yerevan will host COP 17 (the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity). Mayor Avinyan noted that Yerevan Municipality is providing organizational support within the framework of its powers.
“As a host city, we are closely involved in the organizational process. This is a significant event for Armenia, positioning Yerevan as a key player in the global climate dialogue,” the Mayor noted.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the issues and challenges related to improving air quality. Tigran Avinyan informed that Yerevan Municipality has developed a four-year program for improving air quality, which includes all possible steps that will contribute to reducing air pollution. To implement effective solutions, Yerevan is also studying the experiences of partner cities.
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome and presentation of reform programs, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Françoise Jacob, in her turn, noted that the UN team also attaches importance to various cooperation programs with Yerevan Municipality and expressed readiness to support the implementation of new projects.
