Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has touched upon the prospect of Armenia becoming a member of the EU.
“A question has been raised as to whether the adopted law means that Armenia wants to become a member of the EU. My answer is yes, and our European partners and we have noted that the accession of any country to the EU is not a simple process; all EU members must agree with it, and equally, or no less, important is that the country must comply with EU standards,” he said.
The Prime Minister clarified, “They asked me to comment on how I imagine the solution to the problem. I have stated that, in all cases, we have an ambitious program and strategy for reforms, which we will implement one way or another.
We will continue the reforms until Armenia, objectively, complies with European standards in all respects.
There are two options on this point: either Armenia is accepted as a member of the EU, or not.
“If they accept it, great; if they don’t accept it for some reason, Armenia is already a country that meets modern European standards at that point. In both cases, we have no reason not to continue this strategy.”
