US President Donald Trump has called on Moscow to resolve the conflict in Ukraine within 50 days, threatening to impose “hefty tariffs” on Russia’s trading partners if it fails.
In addition, the US and NATO have agreed to supply Kyiv with “a truly massive amount of military equipment.”
During a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump said he was disappointed with Vladimir Putin and dissatisfied with Moscow’s position on resolving the Ukraine conflict.
“I thought we should have reached an agreement a long time ago, but it just keeps going on and on,” he said. Trump said he felt he had reached an agreement with Russia on the war in Ukraine “about four times.”
“We will be imposing hefty tariffs if we don’t reach an agreement within 50 days, approximately 100 percent tariffs,” Trump said, adding that these would be “secondary tariffs” that would target Russia’s trading partners.
The US president also announced that Ukraine would be provided with billions of dollars in military equipment. Washington is going to “produce high-quality weapons” and send them to NATO, after which the alliance will send them “where they are needed.”
