Donald Trump has officially accepted an invitation from King Charles III to pay a second state visit to the United Kingdom from September 17-19, Buckingham Palace announced on Sunday.
Trump will become the first US president to make two high-level state visits to the United Kingdom. No US president, including a re-elected one, has ever been invited to the UK twice for a state visit; they are usually invited to tea or lunch with the monarch in their second term.
Trump’s first state visit was in 2019, when Queen Elizabeth II received him.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla will host Trump and First Lady Melania at Windsor Castle, as renovations are underway at Buckingham Palace.
The program of the visit has not yet been announced, but it is safe to say that it will include a ceremonial reception and banquet at St. George’s Hall in Windsor. All senior members of the royal family will attend the ceremonies, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, who live at Windsor Castle.
