Radar Armenia‘s interlocutor is Ruben Mehrabyan, the vice-chairman of the “For the Republic” party.
– Pashinyan will meet with Aliyev tomorrow. What can we expect from that meeting?
— There will be positive signals, but it is unlikely that they will sign an agreement. Let’s see. I don’t want to get ahead of events.
– The US Secretary of State expressed hope that the document would be signed soon, and the State Department spokesman noted that she had a reason for saying so. Does this foreshadow anything about the upcoming meeting?
– This indirectly indicates that the United States is not just a hopeful observer in this process. The rest – we will live to see.
– Do you think the US will put pressure on Armenia or Azerbaijan regarding the signing of the document or the “corridor”?
– No. The United States has signed a strategic partnership charter with Armenia, which enshrines the principles that unite the Two Countries. These are Armenia’s internationally recognized borders, sovereignty, inviolability of borders, and territorial integrity, and the United States will not deviate from its principles in this regard. And if Azerbaijan continues to persist, yes, we should also expect particular pressures. By the way, during the briefing of the United States Senate at the Helsinki Commission, Armenian representatives discussed this very issue.
– What is Turkey’s role in this issue?
– At least, it is not negative, unlike the role of Russia, which is engaged in a hybrid war with both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
– Opposition figures in Armenia note that the latest legal processes, arrests, and detentions are related to the Pashinyan-Erdogan meeting and the upcoming Pashinyan-Aliyev meeting, and some agreements or the signing of a document are being prepared. In your opinion, can these processes be related to each other?
– I see a connection between the actions of those who say all this, against the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, which Putin’s Russia has launched, and which uses them as a tool. These are the mental torments of these tools, which are not worth a penny.
