Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
During the meeting, issues related to Armenia-European Union relations, strengthening democratic institutions, the rule of law, and opportunities for deepening cooperation in governance reforms were discussed.
Prime Minister Pashinyan thanked the EU for its continuous support of Armenia and emphasized the Armenian government’s commitment to strengthening democracy and peace.
The EU High Representative noted that Armenia and the European Union have never been closer to each other than now. According to her, the European Union is ready to deepen its partnership in all directions further.
Kaja Kallas highlighted the Armenia-EU-US trilateral statement signed in Brussels on April 5, 2024, as an important milestone in strengthening strategic cooperation between Armenia and its European and Western partners. According to her, it has served as the basis for a new level of political dialogue.
Kallas highly appreciated the Armenian government’s commitment to democratic reforms, considering them of vital importance not only within the country but also as a basis for external partnerships. She emphasized that these values must be protected, especially in the face of hybrid threats, disinformation, and attempts to interfere in the country’s internal affairs. Kaja Kallas emphasized that the EU is ready to stand by Armenia, supporting the country’s resilience and stability.
During the meeting, they also exchanged views on the visa liberalization process. Both sides emphasized that significant progress has been made in this direction recently.
The interlocutors touched upon the regional situation and the peace process. The EU High Representative noted that Brussels is pleased to note the positive progress recorded during the Armenia-Azerbaijan bilateral negotiations, which can serve as a basis for establishing stability and peace in the region.
