Iran has the right to enrich uranium and does not plan to stop this activity. This was stated by the Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravan, in an interview with the American CBS television channel.
As the diplomat emphasized, uranium enrichment is Iran’s “inalienable right” under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
“And we want to exercise this right. I think enrichment will never stop,” he added, answering the question of whether Tehran intends to resume uranium enrichment.
Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, earlier stated in an interview with CBS that Iran has retained some components of its nuclear program and may resume uranium enrichment within a few months. According to him, Iran “had and still has to some extent the capacity to process, convert, and enrich uranium” in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. As Grossi added, these capabilities are “largely destroyed,” but “something remains.”
