Gaza mediators are trying to use the “momentum” created by the Israeli-Iranian peace deal to restart stalled talks, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said. Qatar has been in contact with “all parties” in recent days to “persuade Israel and Hamas to resume talks.”
“Now is the time for President Trump to move forward with this process, and we are confident that he is sincere in this matter… We are ready to support him in this,” Al-Ansari told CNN’s Becky Anderson.
“The Iran-Israel peace deal has created new momentum, but we are not out of the woods yet. There are many details of the current agreement that I cannot reveal now, but I can say that these are the same basic points constantly being included and excluded from the negotiations,” he added.
Asked whether Iran’s attack was coordinated with Qatar, Al-Ansari said there was some intelligence about possible strikes but stressed that it was a real “surprise.”
“It was unprecedented, and we did not expect Iran to take such a step… especially at a time when we support it on many regional issues. This has damaged our relations with Iran, but we are ready to move forward,” he concluded.
