At 01:49 Yerevan time, the Sun experienced a maximum X-level flare, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported. According to a preliminary assessment, the intensity of the flare was X1.2.
According to photos sent by space telescopes, the flare occurred in the same active region, number 4114, where the two most powerful flares of the month were already recorded on June 15 and 16, with levels M8.4 and M6.3, respectively.
This active region is currently located near the Sun’s central meridian, in the zone of maximum impact on the Earth. Significant plasma emissions accompanied previous flares, but their directions passed above the plane of the planetary arrangement, bypassing the Earth. If the structure of the Sun’s global magnetic field has not undergone profound changes in the last two days, then it is possible that in the event of a new flare, the plasma will not move toward the Earth either. However, there is no confirmation of the plasma release at this time.
Recall that the previous strongest X-level flare was observed on May 25. In total, 8 X-level flares have already been recorded this year. Today’s X1.2 is the fourth strongest of the year, while the strongest flare remains the X2.7 flare recorded on May 14.
