The RA Foreign Ministry reported that a panel discussion entitled “Managing Security Challenges in the Middle East, South Caucasus, and Central Asia through Inclusive Cooperation” was held within the framework of the 2nd International Forum “Yerevan Dialogue” with the participation of RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Baron, Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Migration Varsen Aghabekyan, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe Tatyana Molchani, and Program Manager of the International Crisis Group in Turkey Nigar Göksel also attended the panel discussion.
“We have already taken tangible steps towards establishing peace. That step is the bilateral agreement on the text of the draft peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. I sincerely hope that everyone will agree that this is a significant achievement. We are ready to sign and ratify this agreement, which will open a new era of peace and cooperation in the South Caucasus.
Referring also to the title of this panel, it is possible, and I hope, that this model will also be truly applicable to other regions. Of course, each conflict has its own specifics and nuances, but this general approach to establishing peace and forming an open era of cooperation can be transferred to Ukraine, the Middle East, and other regions that need external intervention or support.
Cooperation and peace must be based on mutual and clear recognition of territorial integrity. If borders are violated, then the whole concept collapses. That is why we can discuss not only the peace treaty, which, again, is a relatively simple document; no peace treaty can regulate all aspects of life or relations between the two countries; that is why we are also discussing possible future cooperation and transit routes that pass through the territory of both Azerbaijan and Armenia. Therefore, cooperation and engagement are genuinely necessary,” said Ararat Mirzoyan.
