Israeli air strikes have killed at least 55 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Local doctors say most of the victims are civilians. Despite international calls to halt hostilities and allow humanitarian aid to enter, Israel has continued its bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip.
The United Kingdom has said it is suspending trade talks with Israel. The British government has also summoned Israel’s ambassador to London over “Israel’s unacceptable policies in Gaza and the West Bank.”
European Union foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas said: “The EU must review its trade agreement with Israel in light of its human rights violations.”
The 20-month war in Gaza has already reduced the territory to rubble, exacerbating hunger and a humanitarian catastrophe. The United Nations says no aid has been delivered since the easing of the blockade, which was announced on Monday.
“Israel is demanding that the cargo be unloaded at the Kerem Shalom crossing, then reloaded and await entry,” the UN spokesman said. He also stressed that two days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced an easing of the siege, Israel was still blocking food supplies to starving Palestinians.
