Lynne Ramsay’s new film Die, My Love, which is in the main competition program of the Cannes Film Festival, has had an excellent start at the festival, receiving high marks from critics. The spotlight is mainly on the leading actress Jennifer Lawrence, whose role is already being discussed for a possible Oscar nomination.
In the film, Lawrence and Robert Pattinson play a married couple who move to a remote country house after the birth of their child. Lawrence plays Grace, a young mother whose postpartum depression turns into a deep mental crisis, accompanied by dark visions and emotional instability. The script is based on the novel of the same name by Argentine writer Ariana Harwich.
The actress said this role was an incredibly personal experience for her: “I had just become a mother. The postpartum period is very isolating.”
The film has already become one of the festival’s most talked-about premieres. Independent content company Mubi acquired the international rights to the film for about $24 million, making this the largest deal of Cannes 2025.
Lawrence previously received four Oscar nominations, including the 2013 winner for the film Silver Linings Playbook. The actress emphasized that motherhood has significantly changed her both personally and creatively.
