“Remember that there is life outside of Facebook,” NA Speaker Alen Simonyan said at a briefing with reporters.
“I understand that a large amount of money is being spent from different places, in particular, from our northern neighbor, Russia,” Simonyan said, adding that a hybrid war is being waged against Armenia. “That hybrid war is only activated when, for example, various commentators on Russian TV channels, often with people with distantly resembling Armenian surnames, try to change the government in Armenia, make announcements of rallies, and this, I must say, will become more active in 2026. And I am not afraid to speak out; it will have the opposite effect, and the X rating that the government has, as you said, will double.”
In response to the question about the risk of a coup, he said: “I do not see a risk of a coup from anyone because I trust the people of Armenia.” He noted that these are not just words, he says, relying on experience, “Since the day of the war in 2020, the goal of changing the government has been a super important goal from different poles and sides.”
When asked why the prime minister is undesirable for the Russian parties, Simonyan said: “Our partners tell us the opposite.”
In that case, why are they talking about a change of government? He said: “There is a terrible example – the option of having an elected government in the post-Soviet space. There are very few such precedents, and it is a bad example. Secondly, the Republic of Armenia, due to historical events, is taking clear steps towards increasing its level of statehood and independence, which, naturally, not everyone likes because the Republic of Armenia must always depend on some center, it must have a big brother in some form and look and think. If the big brother or superpower is not there, they will eat it, swallow it.”
Simonyan spoke about domestic political life, noting that if elections are held soon, the CP will win with 50+1 votes.
