US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has addressed the US tariffs on China.
“China has robbed the whole world for many years. Now, their economy is seriously suffering. People forget that the factories where shoes, clothes, and other products are made are Chinese jobs. When we say these products will not be exported to the US, they are losing their jobs. This is a big blow to the Chinese economy,” he said.
According to the Secretary of State, “There are two questions: Can we reach a short-term agreement with China? That is their goal: they want to meet, discuss.”
According to Rubio, such meetings are planned. “But there is a broader question: is this not a wake-up call for us to start manufacturing in our country again and not be so dependent on China? We have allowed China to destroy us with unfair trade policies, currency manipulation, and intellectual property theft. This is a hazardous situation, and President Trump is changing that now because there is no time to wait.”
Rubio also stressed: “If we continue on this path for another two years, we will have severe problems because of our heavy dependence on China. We need to think about how much we will buy from them in the future.”
