The National Library of Armenia has launched an international two-day conference entitled “France-Armenia: Historical and Cultural Dialogue,” which is being held within the framework of the two-month Francophonie events in Armenia.
The opening of the conference was attended by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Jeanne Andreasyan, Deputy Minister Alfred Kocharyan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of France to the Republic of Armenia Olivier Decotigny, directors of the national libraries of Armenia and France, library specialists, and librarians.
Minister Jeanne Andreasyan emphasized that Armenia-France relations are exceptional regarding historical, political, and cultural ties. “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and France, our cooperation has constantly developed and deepened, covering many spheres of life. The roots of the friendship of our peoples are much deeper than the history of official relations. France has always been a loyal friend of the Armenian people, both during peace and trials. For the Republic of Armenia and the society of our country, this support and friendship are among the key factors in facing the challenges of recent years. The feeling of gratitude and appreciation that we have towards the Republic and society of France is universal. I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the continuous support and constantly developing relations.”
As Jeanne Andreasyan emphasized, Armenian-French cooperation today covers many spheres of education, science, culture, economy, and politics. “France is also an important partner in Armenia’s European integration process. Our cooperation within the framework of Francophonie has opened new horizons, strengthening cultural and linguistic ties. In this sense, it is noteworthy that the conference is being held at the National Library of Armenia, signaling the conclusion of the two-month Francophonie in Armenia. Libraries and scientific institutions have always been pioneers of cultural dialogue, acting as a platform for cooperation for interesting, diverse, and multifaceted discussions.”
She also highlighted signing a memorandum of cooperation between the national libraries of Armenia and France and other institutions, which will serve as a basis for future joint programs. In the context of bilateral cooperation, Jeanne Andreasyan emphasized the implementation of educational programs aimed at capacity development, noting that cooperation in the library sector should also be directed towards technological development.
