According to sources, when Trump imposed a 34% tariff on Chinese goods, Tesla was prepared to pay the additional costs. But when tariffs rose above that threshold, the company could no longer sustain its import plans. Specifically, on April 9, the tariff was raised to 84% and later to 125%, bringing the total tariff on goods exported from China to the US to 145%.
The company’s CEO, Elon Musk, presented these to investors as important innovations to stimulate the growth of the American automaker.
