The RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs wrote on X’s microblog, referring to the Maragha massacres.
“On April 10, 1992, the civilian population of the village of Maragha was subjected to complete ethnic cleansing. More than 50 civilians, including 30 women, were killed by Azerbaijani troops, and 5,000 people were forcibly displaced. 29 women and 9 children were taken hostage; the fate of 19 is still unknown. These atrocities are well documented in reports by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.
The patterns of behavior that led to the Maragha massacre – ethnic hatred, impunity, glorification of war crimes, destruction of Armenian cultural sites, and forced displacement – were previously recorded in 1988-1990 during the massacres of Armenians in Sumgait, Kirovabad, and Baku, among other places.
Today, as we pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the Maragha massacre, we recall that to prevent such crimes and achieve lasting peace, it is necessary to renounce hate speech and encourage respect for fundamental human rights,” the post says.
