Germany’s incoming Chancellor Friedrich Merz vows to end instability.
Forty-five days after Germany’s snap elections, the three political parties—the centrist Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the Christian Social Union (CSU), and the center-left Social Democratic Party (SPD)—have reached an agreement to form a government.
CDU leader Friedrich Merz, who is set to be the chancellor, said Germany was returning to stability after four years of instability. “My message to US President Donald Trump is that Germany is back on the right track,” he said.
Merz said the government would focus on making Germany a modern and digital country. The rent control system would be maintained.
It should be noted that now, before forming a coalition government, the parties must approve the agreement’s text. According to reports, this process will last about 10 days, after which Friedrich Merz will probably be elected Chancellor of Germany in the first week of May.
