Russian diamond miner Alrosa has cut the largest diamond in the country’s history. The rare Vivid Yellow diamond weighs more than 100 carats, the company said in a statement.
The diamond has been named “New Sun” to reflect the fantastic history of the super-large diamond. The company mined it at the Ebele Arctic scattered mine.
This natural mineral, which was born about 1 billion years ago under the influence of high temperatures and pressures deep inside the Earth, saw the light of day long before humans appeared on the planet. It was found in the sands of an ancient riverbed in Yakutia.
A team of 15 of the country’s best specialists, with over 30 years of experience, created “New Sun.” Work on this masterpiece lasted over two years. It is one of the most significant events in the gemstone industry in recent years, emphasizing Russia’s high status in the global diamond industry.
