Trump has announced that the DOGE Department of Government Efficiency will eventually cease to exist, and Elon Musk will return to his job.
US President Donald Trump has announced that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will cease to exist since its head, Elon Musk, will be available as a special civil servant for only 130 days.
“He has a big company that needs to be managed, and that’s why he will return there at some point. I would leave him there as long as possible. He’s a very talented guy, I like smart people, and he’s done a good job,” Trump said.
When asked whether DOGE would continue operating in Musk’s absence, Trump said federal agency leaders “have learned a lot from them,” and some would like to keep DOGE employees with them.
According to CNN, as of the end of March, at least 121,000 employees had been laid off from federal agencies during the DOGE’s work.
