A series of M-class flares were recorded on the Sun on Sunday and Monday night. Five flares occurred on March 30 and three more on the night of March 31, the Institute of Solar and Terrestrial Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported. They began after midnight and lasted 33 minutes. All flares were recorded in the same group of 4048 sunspots.
There is an opinion that solar activity can cause magnetic storms on Earth, disrupt the operation of energy systems, and cause malfunctions in short-wave communication and navigation systems. In addition, there is still no clear answer to whether they affect human health.
The Laboratory of Solar X-ray Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that April will begin with geomagnetic storms. Geomagnetic disturbances will start on April 5 and will not practically cease until the middle of the month. It is assumed that the intensity of magnetic fluctuations will return to normal levels on April 10.
