NA Speaker Alen Simonyan touched upon the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement. According to him, the process is not at a deadlock. “Probably, our proposal to sign a statement and move forward with that logic was a bit unexpected for the Azerbaijani side,” he said.
According to Simonyan, Azerbaijan had previously agreed to specific points, realizing that the Armenian side would not agree. “The goal of discussing this agreement was to achieve a result, not to continue the talks forever,” he added.
Referring to the opposition’s claims that the peace agreement could be considered a capitulation familiar with the government’s style of operation, he noted: “The first and most famous capitulation was Serzh Sargsyan’s capitulation to the Armenian people.” According to him, the opposition’s claims leave a frivolous impression since they are made without getting acquainted with the agreement’s text. “Did the opposition see the text of the [peace agreement] saying something like that? How can it be unilateral if all the provisions apply to both sides?”
