European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented the “ReArm Europe” program to support Ukraine at a summit of EU leaders. Under it, EU countries will soon allocate 800 billion euros for military spending. Of this amount, 150 billion euros will be used as loans to purchase air defense systems, drones, and other weapons.
Von der Leyen later told reporters that if Trump wants “peace through force,” this will only be possible with the EU and its member states “because the preconditions must be met.” She noted that “many examples show how important Europe’s support is to achieve a positive result,” referring to the EU’s economic and military assistance and support for maintaining the functioning of Ukraine’s energy system.
