US President Donald Trump delivered his annual address to Congress.
American media reports that Trump’s address was a record-breaking one hour and 40 minutes long. The previous record belonged to Bill Clinton. In 2000, President Clinton’s “State of the Union” address lasted 1 hour, 28 minutes and 49 seconds.
The address was delivered in a tense atmosphere. “The American dream cannot stand still, and our country is on the verge of a comeback the likes of which the world has never seen and may never see again,” Trump said.
Representatives of the Democratic Party, however, booed and held banners. House Speaker Mike Johnson called on everyone to maintain order and threatened to remove those who tried to disrupt the speech from the hall.
When House Democrat Al Green (D-Texas) refused to take his seat, Johnson demanded that “that gentleman be removed from the chamber.” Trump then continued his speech.
Trump concluded his speech by saying, “America’s golden age has just begun.”
Republican lawmakers stood at the end of his speech, raised their hands, and chanted, “Fight! Fight! Fight!”
Democratic lawmakers quickly left the chamber.
